15th Primary School of Rethymno

Our school is located in an urban area, near the centre of the town of Rethymno. There are 245 students in six grades and 30 teachers of various specialties: primary education teachers who teach language, maths, science, history, geography/environmental studies, social studies and religious education, four teachers tutoring students with learning difficulties, two teachers of English as a foreign language, two teachers of Physical Education, a Drama class teacher, a Music teacher, an Art teacher, an ICT teacher and in the last two grades a German and French teacher. As a school, we are environmentally concerned, and the last few years we have been involved and awarded in environmentally -friendly projects. We have also been involved in projects concerning bulling and raising respect among students, teachers and parents.
We have been involved in a Comenius programme in years 2010-2012 with thirteen other European countries.

The students of our school get ready for the Treasure Hunt organized in the school as part of the Carnival festivities.

During the Sports Day the students formed anti-racist and anti-bulling messages with their bodies...

and played a game called “the balloons of friendship”

And a few words about our town...

Rethymno is one of the four bigger towns on the island of Crete, located in the middle of the northern coastline of Crete. Its population is about 50.000 people. The University of Crete is in Rethymno and its campus inlcudes Schools such as the School of philosophy, the School of Education (Primary and Preschool) and the School of Social, Economic and Political Sciences...and it has a great circular building for a library. The people of Rethymno are mainly involved in the tourism business. Rethymno has a beautiful old town with architectural influences from the Venetian and Turkish occupation years. From the top of Fortezza, the Venetian fortress, the visitor can enjoy the view of the sea and the 15km long beach - one of the longest beaches in Europe and home of the endangered species of Caretta-Caretta sea turtle. Additionally, the visitor can visit many picturesque villages near the town of Rethymno, where one can taste the delicious Cretan food and wine.

This is an aerial view of the old town with Fortezza overseeing the Cretan Sea…

and the old Venetian harbor.

We are all looking forward to meeting you.
